By-election count continues

Counting continues this week to find a result in Cobar’s Local Government by-election.
NSW Electoral Commission’s (NSWEC) returning officer Vanessa Reschke said they should have a pretty good idea by the end of the week which one of the two candidates will be elected to Cobar Shire Council.
As of Monday afternoon close to 1,300 postal votes had been received, 387 people had voted via pre poll and 238 registered voters voted on Saturday in Cobar and Euabalong.
“We will be advised by NSWEC head office when we can begin scrutiny on these Postal Votes this week,” Mrs Reschke said.
“This cannot occur until the authorised rolls used for elector mark offs have been returned to Sydney. [They were sent on Monday.]
She said a check will be made to ensure the elector has not already voted anywhere else against the returned information from the rolls.
“The number of enrolled electors is around 2,883 so we could expect quite a few more to be still coming via post.”
According to the NSWEC website first pref-erences count tally updated on Monday, Mi-chael Prince had received 71.12 per cent of votes and Jesse Cochrane Adolfson 26.11.
