Big turn out for CATS’ first triathlon of the season

There was a big turn out for the CATS (Cobar Athletics and Triathlon Squad) first event of the season on Sunday with 21 competitors lining up at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool for a triathlon.

Two athletes attempted the long course (500m swim, 20km ride and 4km run) while the rest of the field tackled the short course which consisted of 300m swim, 10km ride and 2km run. Both events were handicapped.

Mick Howell set the pace in the long course finishing with a time of 1.09.05 to win followed by Martin Scott second on 1.20.19.

In the short course young Chad Buckman, with blistering ride and run legs, finished as the short course handicapped winner with a time of 44min 17sec.

In second place was Cheryl Lewington (47.36) and Greg McKervey (42.51) was third.

First home in the teams event was the AM team, Amie Hill and Martin Drain (visitor from Manilla), with a time of 37.54.

In second place was PRL (Penny Colwell, Regena Nassar and Lisa Travis) on 41.49.

The overall handicap winners were AM, with Mick Howell second and Chad Buckman was third.

Martin Drain from the AM team had the quickest swim leg on 5min 6sec with Cliff Poland just behind on 5.28.

The quickest short course bike leg was 22.26 set by Chris Powell with Amie Hill the next best on 22.58.

Greg McKervey had the fastest run time over the short course (9.01) with Chad Buckman second on 9.41.
