Ben plays at World All Schools Rugby 7’s competition in NZ

Local schoolboy Ben Griffiths was in Zealand last week playing with the Australian National Indigenous Youth team at the World All Schools Rugby 7’s competition in Auckland.

Ben reports it was an amazing experience.

The Australian side played six games which included a friendly with the Cook Islands last Wednesday and then more games against New Zealand, Fiji and USA on Friday.

On Saturday the team had two really good close matches against Pacifica and Canada.

The tournament hosts, New Zealand, went on to win the competition.

The Australian team was coached by dual international player Andrew Walker.

Ben said he learnt a lot about the game from Walker, who gave him tips in both in defence and attack.

The games were broadcast live on Fox Sports Friday and Saturday.

Ben said one of the highlight’s of his trip was  doing a “war dance” with his team on Saturday which was part of the televised broadcast of the competition.

Ben and his team mates will attend more high performance camps leading into next year and take part in future competitions.
