A long established local business changes hands

Countrywide Cranes, a long established local business, has recently changed hands with Alister Ewan adding the business’ as-sets to his own Cobar Cranes operation.
Countrywide Cranes proprietor Gary Grey came to Cobar as a young boy in 1964 where he went on to complete his schooling and then a Fitter & Turner apprenticeship at the CSA Mine.
Gary started the crane business in April 1990 with his brother Michael and said he was proud to have been able to support the mining indus-try and the town for the past 31 years.
Cobar Cranes was established in 2009 with Alister taking over sole ownership of the busi-ness in October 2017.
Alister said over the past three years the two companies have been working together and when Gary decided it was time to retire Alister thought it would make good sense to take over Gary’s business and incorporate it with his own. Not only will Alister be taking on Gary’s equipment and a number of the company as-sets, he’ll also be taking on Gary’s son, Luke Grey, with the business.
Alister said he wishes Gary and his partner Brenda well in their retirement to the Newcas-tle area but he does expect Gary will return to help out every four months for shutdown work.
