Yabbies get a warm reception at first swim

There was only a small field of swimmers for the Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club’s first swim of the new 2018/2019 season at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool on Tuesday night. The Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club members got a warm reception for their first swim of 2018/2019 season on Tuesday night with the mercury hitting a high of 31 earlier that day.

Traditionally it’s a chilly start for the swimmers each season however the water temperature was a near record 21 degrees by the time competitors hit the water just after 6pm.

Murray Harland made a great start to the new season recording the first win of the night in the 30 metres freestyle handicapped opening event.

Harland finished within 0.19 seconds of his nominated time to win from Angus Westaway on 0.34 seconds with Paul Swainston (0.46)back in third place.

The 50m handicap swim was won by Westaway with 0.44 seconds off his nominated time.

Back in second place was Harland (0.68) with Southport Sharks visitor, Greg Aird swimming into third place with 1.09 seconds off his time.

The 100m handicapped freestyle swim gave competitors a bit more time to languish in the “refreshing” water.

Cameron van Bruegel won with a time of 1.03 seconds of his nominated time with Westaway the runner-up on 1.66 and Aird was again third with 2.16.
