Cobar Amateur Pistol Club members paused last Sunday before their weekly shoot to remember one of their own, Life Member Merv O’Brien who was tragically killed in a recent accident.
“Over the last 39 years Merv O’Brien would have done more for the club than any three other members put together, in working bees at the club ground, competing in events, as a committee member, and as of late being the Range Officer for events while instructing and mentoring all members in the safety aspects of pistol shooting,” fellow club member Lloyd Mitchell said.
The event for last Sunday was a Centrefire competition over 25 Metres, under the guidance of Range Officer John Stingemore.
The Wizard Award was won by newcomer Steve Jeffries, who now has a new handicap.
He finished well ahead of Jake Mitchell with Mick Garbutt another 30 points further back in third place.
The Off Pistol Trophy was won by Garbutt, with Mitchell in second and Chris Johnson was 30 points back in third place.
The scores from the day were: Jeffries shot 357, and with his handicap of 350, finished with a total of 707, and a new handicap of 219; Jake Mitchell 444-141-585; Garbutt 465-90-555; Johnson 414-132-546; Rob Machul 298-222-520; Lloyd Mitchell 283-219- 502; Tony Punzet 358-121-479; and Summer Rose Stingemore 329-134-463.—contributed
