Familiar face takes the reins as Kubby House’s new director

Kubby House Child Care Centre has welcomed Whitney Sheard as their new director.

Whitney is no stranger to staff and families at the long day care centre having worked there as a room assistant since last October.

Kubby House committee member Brytt Moore welcomed Whitney as the centre’s new director and educational leader and said Whitney is well qualified to take on the role.

“Whitney has completed her Certificate II [in Childcare] while at school, and went on to complete her Cert III, Cert IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma.

“Whitney is now studying her Bachelor of Early Childhood Education,” Brytt said.

“While this does mean we will lose her in the Butterfly room as the assistant, her experience in running OOSH services we believe will benefit Kubby to the fullest in the director role,” Brytt said.

Before moving to Cobar, Whitney worked for three and a half years as an Out Of School Hours (OOSH) care centre director in Newcastle.

Whitney told The Cobar Weekly she is very much looking forward to her new role.

“I love being at the centre and I want to see the centre grow.

“I want to help make that happen,” she said.

“I’ll bring all my knowledge and skills to the position and share them with staff and families to support them.”

In her new role Whitney will be in charge of eight staff.

“They are a fun, enthusiastic group to work with, and like me, they love working with children too.”

While Whitney is responsible for the day to day decisions at the centre which has 31 places for children from 0-5, she is also answerable to the centre’s elected committee.

“They are a very good committee to work with.

“They’re very passionate and supportive,” she said.

Brytt said the centre will now be actively recruiting a room assistant to cover Whitney’s old role as well as a trainee to help out at the centre where needed.

“We will keep all parents and carers up to date throughout this process,” she assured.
