Six local riders represent at schools horse sports day

Six local riders, five students from Cobar High School and one from St John’s School, recently competed in the Bourke Public School Horse Sports Day.

Students competed in rider and hack classes as well as sporting events.

St John’s student Ashlie McLaughlin placed third in her rider class for girls 8-10 years and also finished third in the best presented class for her age.

Ashlie added fourth places in flagging, bending and in the keyhole events and finished fifth in the barrels race.

High school student Stephanie Bastian, riding Drover, finished as the 15 years and over age champion and Tayla Toomey, with her horse Possum, was the runner-up.

Chloe McMurray, riding Joey was the 12-14 years age champion and James Stockdale and Digger finished as the runners-up.

The group’s team manager Kristy Stockdale said the students all displayed good horsemanship on the day.
