Peak’s winning weekend of cricket

The senior cricket competition featured three games of Twenty20 over the weekend with Peak and Bushies both having to back up to play Friday and Saturday matches.

On Friday night, Peak (7/139) won against Bushies who were all out for 7/103.

Peak batted first with every batter making a start however no one was able to go on and post a big score and but it was their accumulative efforts that got them to a defendable score.

Vikram Rajpurohit top scored with 37.

Sanjay Jamwal (27) and Robert Childs (21) contributed valuable runs.

The wickets for Bushies were shared around with Lachlan Sullivan taking the best figures of 2/23.

The Bushies got off to a terrible start with the Fraser brothers, Mark and Alec, both getting out for ducks (including Mark being run out).

Tight bowling through the middle of the innings lead to wickets and dried up the runs.

Batting ninth, Glenn ‘Pop’ Spinks turned back the clock belting seven fours and two sixers in a knock of 47 not out.

However, it was too little and too late as the overs ran out for the Bushies and they finished 36 runs short of the total.

Anthony Robertson was the pick of the Peak bowlers recording outstanding figures of 3/8 from four overs.

On Saturday, the Bushies and Wyatt’s Whackers endured the afternoon heat in a close contest.

Batting first, the Bushies posted 102 runs.

Mark Fraser spent longer at the crease than the previous night and top scored with 26 runs for Bushies.

Marty Turton returned bowling figures of two for five from his three overs.

In reply, Wyatt’s Whackers fell agonizing short of the total as they were bowled out for 88 in the 18th over. John Best top scored with 18, Turton made 17 and Kody Martin 15.

Bushies’ Craig Youd cleaned up the tail and recorded the best bowling figures of 2/8.

When the sun went down and lights came on, Peak played the Smashers.

Peak won the toss and elected to bat first.

After losing Joel Mawhinney on the first ball of the innings, Peak went about scoring a respectable total of 3/148.

Sanjay Jamwal top-scored with 61.

He was well supported by Vikram Rajpurohit (47 no) and Robert Childs (21).

In reply, Smashers were bowled out for 101.

Jeff Badayos (40), Jared Stephenson (30) and Dylan Pawsey (10) were the only batsmen to score in double figures.

Robert Childs was the best of the Peak bowlers taking 2/14 from four overs.—contributed
