Double the Christmas cheer

The Christmas cheer was doubled in The Cobar Weekly’s annual Christmas lights competition with two families sharing first place. The Lennon and Lawrence families were named joint winners of this year’s competition, sponsored by Cobar Powerhouse. After the judges’ scores were tallied and the Facebook votes added in, the two light displays in Nullamutt and Harcourt streets couldn’t be split. Both families said they “love Christmas” and enjoy creating a festive feel in their homes, even if that means climbing up on a steep roof to hang lights or untangling a new box of lights for two and a half hours. Julie told The Cobar Weekly she starts decorating her home inside and out at the beginning of November. The Lennon’s display grows each year with an image projector added this year. Pictured at the winners presentation on Monday are Brad and Gabbi Lennon with Julie Lawrence and her grandsons Isaac and Jaxson Betcke at Julie’s home. The Haines family in Bradley Street were awarded 3rd place.
