Cobar trainer Wayne Prisk had a winning double at the Cobar Miners Race Club Picnic Race Meeting on Saturday.
Vonnida (paying $1.80 as the favourite), a last start winner at Louth for the Cobar Camels Rugby Union syndicate managed by Jarrod Marsden, president of the Cobar Miners Race Club, led throughout to defeat Maximoo (Ricky Blewitt, $4.40) and Living Fire (Wesley Boyd, $4.40) in the Sullivan’s Mining & Hardware Cobar Copper Handicap, 1,200 metres.
Bold Suggestion ($2.20 fav.), first leg of the Wayne Prisk and Daniel Stanley double, burst through the pack for an impressive win in the Cobar Cranes Class B Handicap (1,000 metres) from Windsor Castle (Shannon Fogg, $6) and Noceur (Ricky Blewitt, $3.50).
Sold immediately after winning the recent 2,000 metres Louth Cup, eight year old mare Streak On gave the new owners a quick return when taking out the DJW Cobar Picnic Cup (over 1,700 metres) on Saturday.
Between the Louth and Cobar meetings, Streak On was trained at Condobolin by former part owner Mark Ward but is now expected to go to stables at Cowra.
Em Double You Bee set a solid pace at Cobar with Streak On and The Real McCoy tracking the leader to the home turn.
After a good battle, Streak On (Wesley Boyd, $2.40 favourite) won the Cup by nearly a length from The Real McCoy (Ricky Blewitt, $3.50) with Sword Fighter (Maddison Wright, $2.50) finishing third.
Boyd, who started race riding this year, also won the opening race, the Landmark Russell Maiden Plate (1,000 metres) on Ravitude for Scone trainer Thomas Elmes.
Ravitude ($3) from midfield came with a strong run on the outside to beat Flaperon (Maddison Wright, $2.50 fav.) and Go Rev (Samara Johnson, $4.40).
The Garry Bignell, Nyngan trained Flatley’s Fortune (Maddison Wright, $3.50) after being headed in the straight fought back to beat Gagarin (Ricky Blewitt, $1.90 fav.) and Al Artois (Samara Johnson, $10) in the Cynend Building & Construction Class B Handicap, 1,400 metres (photo below).—Colin Hodges
