Not re-standing

State Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries announced last week that he would not be recontesting his seat at the March 2019 election.

After 10 years representing the seat of Barwon Mr Humphries said that by the time this term was finished, 12 years would be long enough to be in politics out west.

“Time’s up for me. Over the past 10 years, I haven’t spent more than one week in the place where I live. It’s been a bit wearing but I’d like to leave while I’m still positive,” he said.

“It continues to be a privilege to represent such a vast and diverse electorate.

“Over the next year and a half I am looking forward to a number of new key announcements which continue the rebuild and reforms that have been enacted,” Mr Humphries said.

“The state is in good hands politically and now in an excellent financial position to inject further funds that will see the investment in our communities that they deserve.

“I was afforded an extended period of time as the Nationals candidate in the lead up to the 2007 election and I want to pass that same opportunity on to the next candidate for the Nationals. Continuity is always a challenge in politics and getting to know the network and vast array of issues is the key if you are to be an effective political representative.

Mr Humphries said he has “no plans whatsoever” for after politics but expects he will return to work in the non-government sector.
