Roosterettes beaten on the buzzer

The Cobar Roosterettes had just 13 girls available for Saturday’s League Tag game at Forbes, which was the least amount the side has had all season for a game.

Forbes started the better posting two tries to lead 10-0 before the Roosterettes really kicked into gear.

Great runs by Emily Claus, Gina Martin and Chelsea Simmonds put the Forbes girls on the back foot making them work the ball out from deep in their own half.

Naomi Whitehurst scored next to the posts for Cobar’s first points and her try was easily converted by Natalie Barnes for a 10-6 deficit.

More good attacking plays by the girls and clearing kicks by Barnes and Zoë Harland were pressuring the Forbes girls to do the hard yards for their attacking opportunities.

When they made breaks, the pace of Cobar girls Naomi Whitehurst and Jada Hartwig were denying Forbes tries with their great cover defence.

When Whitehurst scored her second for the game and Barnes once again converted, Cobar led 12-10 with the minutes ticking down.

Elyse Graham, Jess Mullins and Elodie Manns were great in defence for Cobar.

After attacking the Cobar line for the third set in a row, Forbes scored a ‘dubious’ try on the stroke of fulltime (the try scorer was tagged simultaneously by Harland as she scored) for Forbes to win 14-12.

Best for Cobar were Whitehurst, Barnes, Graham, Martin and Hartwig.—contributed
