Love is in the air at the Lilliane Brady Village with local entertainer John Peebles serenading residents and staff as part of the Village’s Valentine’s Day celebrations yesterday.
The retirement village’s new Director of Nursing Sherrie Boucher said yesterday’s celebrations are just the start of a long list of activities they have planned for the year ahead.
“With COVID restrictions now easing we want to bring life back into the Village,” Ms Boucher said.
“We want to let the community know that we’re back, we’re open and that we once again welcome any and all visitors regardless of vaccination status.
“We’d love to see lots of people back visiting the residents, volunteers back to help run activities, along with musicians and entertainers—anyone that wants to visit will be made very welcome.”
Ms Boucher said she and the Village’s Lifestyle Coordinator, Wendy Anderson, had a long meeting last week discussing lots of ideas on how they can enhance the living experience for their residents.
They spoke about entertainment, art classes and school visits.
“We’ve started having our regular Happy Hour with drinks, nibbles and entertainment with DJ Wendy playing the residents’ requests.
“We also plan to have a monthly guest speaker come in and we are bringing back bi-monthly residents and relatives gatherings.”
“It was a bit hard to have any “fun” during COVID but we’re hoping we can now bring some fun back into our residents’ lives,” she said.
Residents, where they are able, are once again encouraged to get out and visit their families, do some shopping or have a meal downtown, or take part in local club activities.
Ms Boucher said many residents however don’t have the opportunity to get out, as they might not be mobile enough or don’t have family members to take them so the more activities and entertainment they can provide in-house, the more it will benefit all the residents.
She said while they do welcome all visitors back to the Village, they do however still need to take precautions to protect their residents and staff from contracting COVID.
All visitors are welcome (no proof of vaccination required). Visitors must do a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT test) at the door before they enter and undergo a short wellness screening.
There is no limit on how many visitors can visit a resident but visitors can still only visit one resident per day.
