Members of the Cobar Roosters Senior Rugby League Football Club put on a warm welcome over the long weekend for Heavy Hiterz East-West Cycle participant Brent Simpson when he passed through Cobar on his way from Coolangatta to Perth.

Brent’s Heavy Hiterz non-profit group aims to create a family of people who have experienced mental illness.

He hopes that through online discussions and community forums, people living with mental illness can become engaged and get the support they need

Roosters club president Glenn Davis and secretary Jessica Claus welcomed Brent and his support crew last weekend with a small reception at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club.

Jessica said she’d read online about Brent’s work with Heavy Hiterz and decided to get involved.

She said promoting good mental health was something she’s very passionate about.

“Brent asked me to become an ambassador for Heavy Hiterz; which I happily agreed to,” Jessica told The Cobar Weekly.

“We now hope to be able to raise enough money for the Heavy Hiterz team to be able to come out to rural communities like ours and work with those living with mental illness.

“Brent has agreed to come back to Cobar and have a game with the boys for a Heavy Hiterz charity round which will be organised once his ride is finished,” Jessica said.
