Local man, Max Humphries, has been recognised for his many years of service to the Cobar community with a NSW Seniors Festival Local Achievement Award.

Max was presented with the award by State Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries at a special morning tea at Gumnuts Gifts & Homewares on Monday.

The presentation was attended by Max’s wife Noelene, staff members from the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club, Max’s friends and neighbours.

Kevin Humphries said the NSW Seniors Week Local Achievement Awards provide an opportunity for MPs and local communities to recognise the seniors in their area that contribute to making their community an invigorating, inspiring, active and healthy place to live.

“This is an acknowledgement from the Minister for the work you have done in Cobar through the Golfie, the Brennan Centre, Meals on Wheels, Rotary and the local cadet unit,” Kevin said.

In his nomination for the award, Max was described as a “strong supporter of the elderly in need and the youth in our community”.

His nomination described his involvement with the running of the Brennan Centre aged care units including securing funding for the construction of further units, administration and maintence of the complex.

Kevin said only a small number of NSW Seniors Festival Local Achievement Awards are handed out each year and Max’s award was one of four this year in his electorate.
