Cobar born and bred Shannon Eves has returned to Cobar to work at The John Mitchell Pharmacy.

More than 10 years ago, the 29 year old began working after school as a pharmacy assistant and on Monday Shannon returned to take over the role of resident pharmacist.

Shannon graduated from Cobar High School in 2005 and studied at Wagga for a year, did Forensic Science for three years at Sydney University and them moved on to study pharmacy for four years at Queensland University of Technology.

After graduating last year, Shannon began working in Rockhampton but said it has always been her plan to return home.

“I have family and friends here; my partner is here; I have a lot of ties here.

“It’s nice to come back,” she said.

“It’s familiar, comfortable and I was able to just walk back in.”

Shannon believes being a local will be an advantage in her job.

“It’s easier to relate to people because you know them, you know their stories.

“They know I’m a local and they can trust me,” she said.

“I’m from the area and I get the circumstances of the area.”

Shannon said she will aim to offer more health services to the Cobar community, including medication checks, blood pressure checks and diabetes blood glucose checks.

“If anyone has any questions about their medications I’m happy to sit down and have a chat,” she said.

Now that she’s back Shannon says she plans to stay for a while.

“I’m hoping to play netball and join the gym.”

She said she won’t miss the commute she had each day to work in Rockhampton.

“Or the cyclones! We lived through one of those and that was enough.

“It’s very good to be back.”
