Countbacks decide close contests

The games were close in the women’s golf competition last week with two results having to be decided by countbacks.

Fran Samios was the winner of the Stoke event last Wednesday after a countback with Wan Sipatsa. Both finished with 74 Net.

In 3rd place was Daphne Cross with 76 Net followed by Geraldine Francisco on 77 Net.

Sipatsa was the sole winner of the putting competition finishing with 24 putts for the day.

A countback was needed to find a winner of Monthly Medal Stroke event played on Saturday after three players finished with the same score.

Robynne Morton (1st place), Chrissy Gilligan (2nd) and Sue-Ellen Dunne  (3rd) all carded 72 Net.

In 4th place was Geraldine Francisco (74 Net) followed by Daphne Cross (75 Net), Gloria Hay (76 Net) and Pam Sikora (76 Net also).

The winner of the putting competition was Jannine Wilkin with 23 putts.

On Sunday the first round of the 27 hole championships was played with the second round to be contested this weekend.

Last Sunday’s winner was Barb Barklimore with a score of 67 Net followed by Chrissy Gilligan (69), Karen Manns (72), Robynne Morton (72), Ann Dunn (72), Vivian Beehan (73) and Daphne Cross (74).

The winners of the Nearest the Pins competition were: A Grade—Sally Bannister; B Grade—Ann Dunn; and C Grade—Karen Manns.

Today’s game is a Stableford; Saturday is Bannister Day (Stableford); and on Sunday the second round of the 27 hole championships will be contested.
